iPhone Duo Pre-Order Night at Apple The Exchange TRX: Launch-Day Pickup Gone in 10 Minutes, Then Released in Trickles

iPhone Duo pre-orders opened in Malaysia at 20:00 on 16 October; it goes on sale on 23 October, from RM9,499. This is what our stock radar recorded that night at Apple The Exchange TRX in Kuala Lumpur: when launch-day pickup slots appeared, how fast they went, whether more came back later, and what happened in Hong Kong, Singapore and elsewhere. It is one store on one night, not a measure of how much stock Apple has.

Where the data comes from
The data comes from our Apple Store stock radar: the server checks TRX every 10 minutes, and results from visitors' own checks are recorded too. Between 20:00 on 16 October and 09:25 on 17 October, iPhone Duo at TRX was checked 213 times, on average less than every 4 minutes. Only the store, model, time and Apple's pickup message are stored, nothing about visitors.
A slot that appeared and was taken between two checks is invisible to us, so the release counts below can only be too low, never too high.
Before 20:00: Apple paused pickup checks
From about 14:00 on 16 October, Apple's in-store pickup check started returning "service unavailable" for every store, in Malaysia and elsewhere. The buy page itself stayed up and said pre-orders would open at 20:00. Taking the check offline on a pre-order day is common; Apple does not announce it.
The check did not come back at 20:00 sharp. Our first successful answer was at 20:14, so for the first quarter of an hour nobody could see in-store pickup at all.
The first round: 10 minutes
At the first check at 20:15, 6 of the 8 models could be ordered for pickup at TRX on 23 October ("Available 23 Oct"). The 256GB and 1TB in Starlight White were already gone.
By 20:25 all 8 showed "Unavailable for Pickup". Even someone waiting at 20:00 had about ten minutes once the check came back.
After that: trickles all night
The slots did not disappear for good. By 09:25 the next day we had recorded 54 more occasions when a model could again be ordered for pickup on the 23rd, most lasting only a minute or two. These are probably cancelled orders, unfinished payments released back, or slots Apple added; Apple does not say which.
Releases came in two bursts: between 20:30 and 21:00, and between 22:00 and 22:20. After midnight there were only three: 01:04, 07:58 and 08:29.

Every model came back at least once; none was gone for good after the first round. The 2TB in Starlight White sold out at 20:22 and was released five more times.
Other places
The radar also checked stores in other regions that night, but far less often than TRX, so the list below shows only that a slot appeared, not how many there were.
- Hong Kong, 6 stores: mostly "pickup not available". Only 4 launch-day slots all night, at Canton Road, ifc mall and Causeway Bay.
- Taiwan: one each at Taipei 101 and Xinyi A13, at 21:46 and 21:47.
- Mainland China, 49 stores: almost all "unavailable"; one each at Chaoyang Joy City (00:06) and Pudong (00:50).
- Korea: one, at Hanam, at 06:46.
- Japan, 11 stores: none seen.
- Singapore, 3 stores: none; Apple's site said "Check back for availability on 10.24".
How long online orders take
On pre-order night every region's online store was already quoting late January 2027, for every colour and capacity. Singapore and Hong Kong show a delivery date; the others show a shipping date.

Since the night of 16 October we record these dates every 3 hours, and the weekly stock report will show whether they move earlier or later.
What we do not know yet
- Whether TRX receives more units for launch-day pickup before 23 October.
- Whether stores will have walk-in stock after launch.
- Whether the scattered releases are cancellations or slots Apple added.
