Play Minesweeper Online — No-Guess Competitive Mode
The classic mine-clearing puzzle rebuilt as a competitive sport: logic-solvable boards, 3BV/s efficiency stats, action replays and a global speedrun ladder.
✨ Why play here
🧩 No-Guess engine
A CSP solver certifies every generated board as solvable by pure deduction — the classic 50/50 coin-flip ending is gone.
⏱️ Real efficiency stats
Time, 3BV, 3BV/s, click count and efficiency are tracked per game, so you can measure real improvement, not luck.
⚔️ Live PvP races
Race an opponent on identical boards, watch live games in the spectator lobby, and replay any finish move by move.
📱 Touch-tuned boards
Pinch-zoom, long-press flags and misclick protection make intermediate and expert boards comfortable on mobile.
📖 How to play Minesweeper
The board hides a fixed number of mines. Your job is to reveal every safe cell without detonating one.
- Reveal a cell — click (or tap). A number tells you how many mines touch that cell, including diagonals.
- Flag a mine — right-click (or long-press) to mark a cell you have deduced is a mine.
- Chord — click a satisfied number (its flag count matches) to open all remaining neighbours at once. Chording is the single biggest speed technique.
- First click is always safe, and in No-Guess Mode every following step has a logical solution.
- Difficulty presets: Beginner 9×9 / 10 mines, Intermediate 16×16 / 40, Expert 30×16 / 99, plus custom boards.
Patterns worth memorising
The 1-2-1 pattern along an edge always resolves the same way: the cells above both 1s are safe and the cell above the 2 pair contains the mines. The 1-2 edge pattern similarly forces the mine two cells ahead. Learning a dozen of these standard shapes converts most of a board into instant reads, which is where 3BV/s really climbs.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What is No-Guess Mode in Minesweeper?
Every board is verified by a CSP (constraint-satisfaction) solver before you see it. From the first click to the last cell there is always at least one purely logical deduction available, so you never have to gamble on a 50/50. If you lose, it was solvable — and the replay shows you where.
What do 3BV and 3BV/s mean?
3BV (Bechtel's Board Value) is the minimum number of left clicks needed to clear a board without flags. 3BV/s divides that by your time, giving a speed metric that is fair across easy and hard boards. It is the standard efficiency stat used by competitive minesweeper players worldwide.
Is VSS Minesweeper free? Do I need an account?
It is completely free and runs in your browser with no download. You can play instantly as a guest; creating a free account only becomes useful when you want your ladder ranking and replays to sync across devices.
Can I race other players in real time?
Yes. The PvP mode puts two players on identical boards at the same moment — first to clear wins. You can also spectate live races and load any finished game as a step-by-step action replay.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The board supports pinch-zoom, long-press flagging and an anti-misclick guard tuned for touch screens, so expert boards are playable even on a small display.
