What eSIM only means
Apple's spec page says iPhone Duo "uses advanced eSIM technology" and is "not compatible with physical SIM cards". The Hong Kong and mainland China spec pages say the same, so no regional version has a SIM tray.
- Your current physical SIM cannot go into it. You need to ask your carrier to convert your number to eSIM first.
- Carriers differ in how they handle this and what they charge. Ask before you order, so the phone is usable when it arrives.
- When you travel you cannot buy a local physical SIM and insert it. You need a travel plan that supports eSIM.
Choosing store pickup when you pre-order
Malaysia has one Apple Store, Apple The Exchange TRX in Kuala Lumpur. When you pre-order on Apple's site you can choose delivery or store pickup.
- Look at the pickup date. With pickup selected, Apple's site shows the earliest date you can collect. If it says 23 October, you can collect on launch day. A later date means launch-day slots are gone.
- Launch-day slots are limited. When a new iPhone opens for pre-order, launch-day pickup slots usually go quickly, and the pickup date then moves later day by day.
- If launch day is gone you can choose delivery, with the delivery date shown at checkout.
For the store's location, how to get there and what to bring, see the Apple The Exchange TRX pickup guide.
Watching pickup slots with the radar
Apple's site shows one model at a time. To see the pickup date of all eight models together, use our Apple Store stock radar:
- Open the radar, choose The Exchange TRX as the store and iPhone Duo as the model.
- Tick the colours and storage sizes you want. You can tick all of them.
- Before 8 PM on 16 October, turn on 1-minute auto-refresh and the sound alert.
- When a model can be pre-ordered for pickup, its card turns green and shows the pickup date Apple gives. A date of 23 October is a launch-day slot.
- Use the button on the card to go straight to Apple's site and order.
Until pre-orders open, the radar shows iPhone Duo as unavailable, which is expected. From 15 October we will record Duo pickup status at TRX and the six Hong Kong stores automatically, and after pre-orders open we will write up when launch-day slots were released and how long they lasted.
What is not known yet
- How much stock there is at launch. Apple does not publish store allocations.
- Whether TRX offers launch-day pickup on pre-order night. It has for past iPhones, but Duo is a new category and we will only know on the evening of 16 October.
- Which model will be hardest to get. For iPhone 18 Pro Max it was 256GB. Whether Duo follows is unclear.
This article will be updated after pre-orders open.
